(Kalihi, Oʻahu) – Jacob Aki, a candidate for the Honolulu City Council District VII seat (Kalihi, ʻIwilei, Kalihi Kai, Māpunapuna, Salt Lake, Āliamanu, Hickam, Foster Village, Ford Island, and Sand Island) and the Chief of Staff to State Senate Majority Leader J. Kalani English has been campaigning for the soon-to-be open council seat since April 2019. He says he welcomes fellow resident Radiant Cordero into the District VII race.
“Radiant has also been an active member in our community for many years and has done a lot of great work through her role in Councilmember Joey Manahan’s office,” said Aki. “Our community is very fortunate to have two outstanding young candidates running for office and I look forward to a spirited campaign heading into 2020 .”
Aki, who is a lifelong resident of Kalihi with deep familial roots in the community announced his campaign on April 8, 2019. His campaign has been actively canvassing the district since May (knocking on over 2,500 doors) and brought in over $21,000 during the most recent campaign spending period.
He says he is very proud of the work that his campaign has done thus far and is very confident heading into the 2020.
“We’ve made it a goal to walk the entire district before years end and I am excited to say that we are on track to meet that goal,” said Aki. “For me, it’s important that I hear from and talk with every resident about the issues and concerns affecting our district. I’ve received such a warm reception from many of these residents and our campaign’s message is resonating with them.”
